The splicing members of the mechanism (2) align and splice optical fibres together under a controller (4). A position determining device (10) is allocated to a navigation system and coupled to the controller. The controller is so designed that the respective splicing process is documented by it by depositing the relevant data and splicing position in a memory and/or the controller can directly control the splicing process by determining a splicing parameter value, pertaining to certain splicing position.
