<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air conditioner equipped with a pressure regulating device, capable of starting a stopping compressor without stopping other operating compressors, and to provide a control method thereof. SOLUTION: When a part among a multitude of compressors is operated and the other compressors are stopped upon the initial starting of the stopping compressor; the stopping compressor can be started safely without stopping other operating compressors, whereby comfortable feeling can be maintained without stopping cooling or heating operation by a method wherein the air conditioner is provided with a bypass pipe for guiding refrigerant gas in the discharging side of the compressor into the suction side of the compressor, a bypass valve provided in one side of the bypass pipe to regulate the opening and closing of the bypass pipe and a controller for controlling the opening and closing of the bypass valve, while the valve of the pressure-regulating unit of the suction side pipeline for the compressor to be started is closed to open the bypass valve and the compressor to be started is started; and thereafter, the opening and closing of a valve in the pressure regulating unit is adjusted to reduce a pressure difference stepwisely, and then the bypass unit is closed and the compressor is operated normally.</p> |
