PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the hydrogen storage capacity of a Ti-V-Cr based hydrogen storage alloy. SOLUTION: The hydrogen storage alloy has a fundamental composition expressed by the general formula of TiaCrbMcXd; wherein, M is at least one kind of element selected from V, W and Mo and X is at least one kind of element selected from rare earth elements, and 0.8<=b/a<2.0, 0<c<5.0 mass%, and 0<d<1.0 mass% are satisfied. In the alloy, the content of residual oxygen is 100 ppm to 1,000 ppm, a BCC phase of almost 100% is used as the main phase, and also, the average particle size of BCC crystals lies in the range of 10 nm to 1,000 nm.
