PURPOSE: A wavelength division optical transmitting apparatus and a method therefor are provided to reproduce a normal optical signal in a reception side by switching only a channel in which an error is generated in case that the error is generated in at least one among several optical fibers of a WDM(Wavelength Division Multiplexer) or the error is generated in at least one among O/E(Optic/Electric) converters. CONSTITUTION: An optical coupler(16) separates an optical signal transmitted from a transmission side of a WDM(13). An optical signal automatic extractor(17) extracts only a wavelength of an optical signal corresponding to a channel in which an error is generated at its rear terminal among optical signals separated in the optical coupler(16). An optical coupler(26) distributes the optical signal outputted from the optical signal automatic extractor(17) to an optical switch(18) and an O/E converter(24). The optical switch(18) provides the optical signal outputted from the optical coupler(26) to the channel in which the error is generated among the outputs of the WDM(13). The O/E converter(24) converts the optical signal outputted from the optical coupler(26) into an electric signal. An electric switch(19) provides the electric signal outputted from the O/E converter(24) to a rear terminal of the O/E converter(24) of the channel in which the error is generated.
