Hand operated printing device for labels, with scan unit to read existing text, symbol and/or bar-code to copy onto labels for similar items

Pen shaped, hand-operated printing device has optical scan unit (SCAN) to detect existing printed text, symbol and/or bar-code on item. Detected text is copied onto other similar objects. Path detector (WE) detects printing direction (X,Y). Printer is connected to remote device (GS) e.g. PC or palm-top by e.g. Bluetooth (RTM). Ink jet print unit (JET) and ink reservoir (INK) are snap fitted into housing (G). Control electronics (EL) has memory (MEM) for data to be printed.
