PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a safety device for a cutter in a farm product harvester designed to stop driving the cutter by the shift action when the main variable-speed lever is shifted into neutral/backward side. SOLUTION: In a farm product harvester where a self-propelled machine body equipped with a traveling unit enabling the changeover of forward/neutral/backward mode by the main variable-speed lever is mounted with a cutter receiving mechanical power through a transmission system other than that transmitting power to the traveling unit, this safety device for the cutter has such mechanisms that (1) when the main variable-speed lever 33 is shifted into neutral/backward side, the device is made to interlock so as to stop driving the cutter 19 by the shift action, (2) when the main variable-speed lever 33 is shifted into neutral/backward side, a cam 36 is half-rotated via a limit switch 34 by the shift action and a tension clutch transmitting power to the cutter 19 is forcedly moved to a transmission cutoff side, and (3) a plate 47 functioning to actuate the limit switch 34 is supported so as to turn interlockingly with the shift action of the main variable-speed lever 33, and the turning circumferential surface of the plate 47 is provided with a projection 49 functioning to actuate the limit switch 34 when the main variable-speed lever 33 is shifted into the neutral/ backward side.
