PURPOSE: A method for preparing sodium metavanadate for use in photographic development, printing and ink production by a simple process is provided. CONSTITUTION: The method for preparing sodium metavanadate is characterized by comprising the steps of heat treating the waste catalysts for desulfurization in refining processes to remove sulfur, grinding them, heating to 30-100 deg.C with 1-5N of caustic soda solution, filtering them, and then heating and drying the filtrate to obtain sodium metavanadate. Thereby, high valuable metals such as vanadium contained in crude oil and transferred to the waste catalysts for desulfurization in refining processes are usefully recycled with avoiding waste of resources.
