PURPOSE: A liquid crystal display and a method of fabricating the liquid crystal display are provided to form a storage capacitor with large capacity to reduce the width of a gate line and improve aperture ratio of a liquid crystal display. CONSTITUTION: A liquid crystal display includes the first substrate(41) having the first and second areas(A,B), an electrode for a storage capacitor(59a) and a gate electrode(55a) respectively formed on the first and second areas. The liquid crystal display further includes a gate insulating layer(52,54) formed on the first substrate, a semiconductor layer(56), source and drain electrodes(55b,55c) formed on the gate insulating layer placed on the second area, and a conductive layer(58) formed on the gate insulating layer placed on the first area. The portion of the gate insulating layer formed on the first area is thinner than the portion of the gate insulating layer formed on the second area. The liquid crystal display also has a pixel electrode(57) electrically connected with the drain electrode and the conductive layer, the second substrate(41a) facing the first substrate, and a liquid crystal layer(43) formed between the first and second substrates.
