<p>PURPOSE: An image projection apparatus is provided to achieve improved color purity and optical efficiency by using a lamp having an elliptical reflector mirror, while reducing thickness of the image projection apparatus. CONSTITUTION: An image projection apparatus comprises a lamp(36) as a light source for generating an optical beam; a color wheel(40) for sequentially separating the color light including two or more colors, from the optical beam incident from the light source; a rod lens(44) for making the distribution of color light incident from the color wheel uniform; a polarization converting unit for converting the color light into a specific polarized light; a first optical unit for collecting the color light converted into a specific polarized light; a color selector plate(60) for receiving the color light from the first optical unit, and converting the polarized light of a specific color contained in the color light; first and second image display devices(56,57) for generating an image beam by reflecting the color light incident from the color selector plate, in accordance with the image signal; a polarizing prism(54) interposed between the color selector plate and the first and second image display devices, and which provides the specific color which is converted by the color selector plate to the first image display device and the optical beam of the other colors to the second image display device; and a projection lens(58) for enlarging and projecting the image beam.</p> |
