PURPOSE: A system for monitoring the operation of a thermostat is provided to instantly determine whether the thermostat has trouble by continuously monitoring the operation of the thermostat. CONSTITUTION: A sensor housing(3) is installed on a thermostat housing(1). A slide bar(5) is connected to a circular valve, and is installed on the sensor housing(3) to be perturbated by the motion of the circular valve. A spring(7) keeps the slide bar(5) adhering closely to the circular valve. A variable resistor(9) converts the motion of the slide bar(5) into the variation of electric resistance. A coolant temperature sensor(11) measures the temperature of an engine coolant. An ECU(13) operates a trouble alarm unit according to a signal received from the variable resistor(9) and the coolant temperature sensor(11).
