摘要 PURPOSE: A fringe field switching liquid crystal display and a method of fabricating the liquid crystal display are provided to form a hole in a gate insulating layer and a passivation layer placed under a pixel electrode so as to reduce electric field applied to an insulating layer formed between the pixel electrode and a counter electrode. CONSTITUTION: A transparent conductive material is deposited on a transparent insulating substrate(10) and patterned to form a plurality of counter electrodes(17). A metal layer is formed on the substrate and patterned to form a gate bus line and a common electrode(12). A gate insulating layer(16) and a passivation layer(18) are sequentially formed on the overall surface of the substrate including the counter electrodes and the common electrode. A predetermined portion of the gate insulating layer and passivation layer are etched to expose a portion of the surface of the substrate, which is placed between neighboring counter electrodes. A transparent conductive material is deposited on the overall surface of the substrate including the exposed portion and patterned to form pixel electrodes(19) on the portion of the substrate between the counter electrodes and on the passivation layer. A thin film transistor consists of a data bus line, source and drain electrodes are accomplished.
