PURPOSE: A paper money discriminating apparatus is provided to prevent abnormal discharge of paper money, and to simplify the structure of a paper money receiving case, thus widening a use region thereof to a vending machine and automated teller machines. CONSTITUTION: The paper money discriminating apparatus(100) is comprised of a paper money discriminating unit(200) forming a paper money discriminating passage and provided with a paper money input detecting sensor, a magnetism detecting and applying member, and a rotating roller; a paper money receiving unit(300) having a receiving case; a paper money receiving and driving unit(400) forming the paper money discriminating passage corresponding to the paper money discriminating unit to prevent forcible input and output as well as storage of paper money; and a control unit coupled to the paper money receiving and driving unit for controlling the input and output of the paper money and the storage thereof.
