DISTRIBUTED GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION PROCESSING COMPONENT SYSTEM AND METHOD

PURPOSE: A distributed geographic information processing component system and method are provided to construct a GIS(Geographic Information System) with components of standard interfaces for accessing or using geographic data stored at a heterogeneous database by a single method so that the system is reusable and interoperable. CONSTITUTION: The system comprises an application program(310), an OLE/COM(Object Linking and Embedding/Component Object Model) interface(320), a map base component(330), an extended OLE/DB(Object Linking and Embedding/Database) interface(340), and a data provider component(350). The application program(310) is necessary to integrate heterogeneous GIS or acquire geographic data from other GIS. The PLE/COM interface(320) exposes externally functions owned by a component. The map base component(330) extracts core common functions needed for being applied to various applications, and exposes externally them. The extended OLE/DB interface(340) is made by adding a GIS interface to the Microsoft OLE/DB interface. The data provider component(350) converts unique type of data stored at each data source into standard WKB(Well Known Binary) type data, and offers the converted data to a client.
