PURPOSE: An exhaust gas purifying apparatus is provided to minimize the amount of exhaust gas by maximally capturing the HC component in the exhaust gas discharged from the engine at the cold starting of the engine. CONSTITUTION: An exhaust gas purifying apparatus is composed of; a cylindrical case(10) formed at the exhaust pipe(4); a partitioning wall(11) for partitioning the inside of an engine into an upper space(30) and lower space(40); a baffle(12) formed between the partitioning wall(11) and case(10) to move the exhaust gas to the upper space(30); a capturing portion(15) for capturing HC component in the exhaust gas introduced at the initial starting of the engine; a ternary catalyst(14) for purifying hazardous components contained in the exhaust gas; a motor(17) for rotating a valve member(16) according to an input signal; and an electric control unit for controlling the upper and lower spaces(30,40) to be open according to the temperature of cooled water by driving the motor(17).
