A master cylinder and actuator device for a motor vehicle braking system, in which the master cylinder (10) and the actuator (12) are assembled to form a single assembly comprising a small brake fluid tank (20) mounted on the master cylinder (10) and connected by a flexible pipe (22) to a separate brake fluid tank (24) provisionally fixed to the assembly (10-12) for its delivery to a motor vehicle manufacturer.
