PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a digital still camera that can easily retrieve image data from a recording medium storing the image data and records the image data in compliance with the standards of the Japanese Electronic Industry Development Association so as to make the data compatible with those of each manufacturer and each device. SOLUTION: The digital still camera selects one of groups before photographing, groups image data according to the setting of the selected group and allows a memory card 8 to store linked data relating the grouped image data each other and photographed image data. Thus, the memory card 8 stores the image data recorded in compliance with the standards and the image data are compatible with data of other devices. Furthermore, a group display section of a display section 10 displays information so as to allow a user to confirm the selected group in a photographing mode thereby preventing mis-selection.
