PURPOSE: A mixed ionic conductor, and a fuel cell and a gas sensor containing the mixed ionic conductor are provided to improve chemical stability, moisture resistance and lifetime of the conductor without deterioration of the ion conductivity. CONSTITUTION: The mixed ionic conductor comprises a perovskite oxide represented by the formula: BaeZr(1-z)M2zO(3-s), wherein M2 is at least one three-valent rare earth element selected from the group consisting of Bi, Ga, Sn, Sb and In; e is 0.9-1; z is 0.01-0.3; and s is (2+z-2e)/2 to 1.5. Preferably M2 is at least one element selected from three-valent rare earth elements and In; and more preferably M2 is at least one selected from the group consisting of Pr, Eu, Gd, Yb, Sc and In. The fuel cell and the gas sensor contain the mixed ionic conductor as a solid electrolyte. |
