PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely detect a breakage by means of a minimum quantity of additional devices without requiring any additional optical waveguide along a detection route. SOLUTION: In this monitoring method for monitoring an optical waveguide between a monitoring terminal point 5 and a monitoring unit 3, an optical data signal 10 from a transmitter 1 and a pump light ray from a pump laser 3 for amplification are discharged into the optical waveguide, a monitoring signal 51 transmitted from the monitoring unit 3 is fed back to the monitoring unit 3 through the same optical waveguide by means of a reflection device arranged in the monitoring terminal point 5, especially by a Bragg lattice arranged inside the optical waveguide, and the reflection device is strictly tuned to reflection with a wavelength of the monitoring signal 51. The monitoring system and the monitoring unit 3 are used for this monitoring method. |
