PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress quenchings caused by a superconducting current lead. SOLUTION: A superconducting magnet is constituted, in such a way that an upper low-temperature container 25 which is positioned in an upper vacuum insulation container 24 and encloses liquid helium and a lower low-temperature container 28, which is positioned in a lower vacuum insulation container 27 and encloses liquid helium, are arranged to face each other and connected to each other through a connecting pipe 30. Then an annular upper superconducting coil 31, arranged in the upper container 25 and an annular lower conducting coil 32, arranged in the lower container 28, are connected to each other through a superconducting current cable 36, passing through the connection pipe 30, so that the magnet is operated in a persistent current mode, by means of a permanent current switch 39, when currents are fed to the coils 31 and 32. The permanent current switch 39 is arranged in the upper low-temperature container 25. |
