PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the illegal acquisition of card data and the use of an illegal card. SOLUTION: A demodulator circuit 71 and an enciphering circuit 72 are housed as well as a head main body in the case 30a of a magnetic head 30, an embossed character sensor 40 detects the image data of a character string displayed by embossing of a magnetic card 1, a decoding means 76 decodes enciphered data, character recognizing means 77 finds a character data string corresponding to the character string displayed by embossing, a deciding means 78 decides whether or not a data string in the prescribed bit range of the decoded card data coincides with the character data string, and a notifying means 79 notifies the decision results. The sensor 40 advances to a position where the sensor 40 faces the character string displayed by embossing only for a period when the magnetic card 1 is made to move in a slide groove and automatically retreats into a housing after the card 1 is made to go through the slide groove. |
