PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect the toner consumption of a laser printer as accurately as possible, irrespective of the kind of printing data, while reducing the operation load. SOLUTION: The laser printer is provided with a continuous dot number detecting means 30 for counting the continuous number of video signals for modulating a laser beam source and detecting the number of continuous dots, a means for dividing the number of continuous dots into several areas and calculating the toner consumption required for a series of dot formation based on data where the central value of the toner consumption for the number of continuous dots in the area is coped with in every area, and an integrated toner consumption storage means 35 for storing the integrated value of the calculated toner consumption, and the toner consumption is obtained by reading the central value out of the area to which the number of continuous dots formed by a series of dot formation belongs, and then, the integrated toner consumption is obtained from the integrated value. |
