PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To secure the accuracy of a spherical surface mutually coming into contact with an inner ring and an outer ring and a track groove and reduce the heating in an initial usage, while contriving to shorten the working time. SOLUTION: The universal joint is applied to a uniform motion universal joint of fixed type for a propeller shaft. A spherical inside surface 5 of the outer ring 1 and the track groove 7 are mad a cutting surface after quenching. A spherical outside surface 6 of the inner ring 2 and the track groove 8 are also made the cutting surface after quenching. A holder 4 makes the spherical outside surface 10, the spherical inside surface 11 and an inner surface of a pocket 9 the cutting surface after quenching. A surface treatment layer for reducing the abrasion resistance is formed on the surface mutually coming into contact with the holder 4, the outer ring 1 and the inner ring 2.
