PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the usability in binary data retrieval by automatically adapting the state of registration to a database if binary data to be retrieved are added, deleted, and so on. SOLUTION: This data retrieving device which retrieves data from the database wherein retrieval object data constituted including still image data and meta data are registered retrieves the retrieval object data according to a set retrieval condition and the meta data included in each piece of retrieval object data registered in the database. When thumbnails of the retrieval object data are listed and displayed in the retrieval, retrieval object data not actually present, but registered are deleted (S702, S706). Further, retrieval object data not registered in the database, but stored in a specific logical area are registered to the database (S713).
