PURPOSE: A wide band frequency synthesizer is provided to reduce a restriction of a voltage controlled oscillator having no effect on a synchronization lock time. CONSTITUTION: A phase detector(100) compares an input reference frequency with a signal from a frequency demultiplier(130) and detects a phase difference. A loop filter(110) converts a signal from the phase detector(100) into a direct current signal. A voltage controlled oscillator(120) generates a frequency signal according to the direct current signal from the loop filter(110). A frequency multiplier(200) multiplies the frequency signal from the voltage controlled oscillator(120). The frequency demultiplier(130) divides and outputs a feedback signal from the frequency multiplier(200) to the phase detector(100).
