PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device for an internal combustion engine, by which a brake operation force by a brake booster can be secured fully, when performing a control for promoting catalyst temperature elevation. SOLUTION: When the differential pressure MPGA between a brake booster internal pressure PBB and atmospheric pressure PA is lower than a predetermined pressure MPFIR, the subtraction correcting value IFIRDEC of a valve- opening control amount in an auxiliary air amount control valve 18 is increased by a prescribed amount DIFIRMP (S161 and S162), to gradually reduce the intake air amount. By gradually reducing the increment of the intake air amount, when carrying out the control for promoting the catalyst temperature elevation, the pressure in an air intake pipe is lowered so as to reduce the brake booster internal pressure PBB.
