PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the capacity of service and the operability of a network and to simplify the maintenance/management of the network by adopting a system for automatically changing the size of a pass after setting the pass and providing an optional pass size at optional time. SOLUTION: Since the automatic size changing system for transmitting the same size as the size of an input pass signal as the pass size of an output pass signal following the size of the input pass signal, i.e., the bytes of line overheads H1, H2 is adopted, the capacity of service and the operability of the network can be improved and the maintenance/management of the network can be simplified. Since both of a pass size fixing system and the automatic pass size changing system are provided to a user and the pass size is automatically changed by flexibly meeting various service, there is a state that the receiving pass size is changed over a band and a pass fault occurs. In this case, an operating system specifies the cause of the fault and analyzes an influence range or the like to simplify the maintenance/management of the network.
