PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable restraining of the rate of increase in the ratio of the pressure inside a cylinder and enlargement of compression autoignition combustion region toward the higher loaded side, by reducing the fuel amount that ignites automatically in one sitting, in compression autoignition combustion. SOLUTION: A high-temperature region, where fuel gas is ignited in one sitting by autoignition near the top dead center vicinity is limited locally to be a convex part 12, that is formed into a disc shape on the upper surface of a piston. Thereby a fuel amount which fires at one sitting by autoignition is restrained, so that the rate of increase of the pressure inside the cylinder, which becomes the cause of knocking, and the region of compression autoignition combustion can be expanded toward the side of higher loaded.
