An extruded styrene resin foam which is made with a foaming agent imposing a reduced load on the environment and has exceedingly high heat-insulating performance and flame retardancy which makes the foam suitable for use in building applications. The foam, which is obtained by extrusion-foaming a styrene resin, is characterized in that the foaming agent used comprises at least one C~3-5 saturated hydrocarbon and that the foam contains a halogenat ed flame retardant (A) and at least one compound (B) selected from the group consisting of phosphorus compound flame retardants containing a nitrogen ato m in the molecule, tetrazole compounds, specific nitrogenous compounds, metal borates, and boron oxide and has a cell structure in which the degree of cel l anisotropy, k, represented by the equation k=a/(axbxc)1/3~ (wherein a (mm) represents the average cell diameter in the thickness direction in a section of the foam, b (mm) represents the average cell diameter in the width direction, and c (mm) represents the average cell diameter in the length direction) is k <= 1.1 and the value of a is 0.05 <=a <= 0.30.</SDO AB>
