PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To avoid the switching failure of a switching member caused by the interference of a returning member with a clutch action member. SOLUTION: The fishing reel is provided with a clutching mechanism to switch a spool rotatably supported on a reel body between a spool-free state and a windable state by the operation of a switching member attached to the reel body and a clutch returning mechanism having a returning member to return the clutching mechanism from a clutch off state to a clutch on state by operating the clutching mechanism from the clutch off to the clutch on thereby shifting a clutch action member of the clutching mechanism. The fishing reel has a magnetic position restriction means to restrict and keep the position of the returning member. The interference of the returning member with the clutch action member in the switching operation from the clutch on state to the clutch off state of the clutching mechanism by the switching member can be avoided by the magnetic position restriction means.
