<p>An encoder in which the number of bits of a code is saved. At step S11, the difference between a normalization coefficient Bi to be coded and a normalization Bi-1 of an encoding unit Ai-1 of a band adjacent, on the lower band side, to that of an encoding unit Ai corresponding to the normalization coefficient Bi is calcualted. At step S12, a table showing the correspondance between a difference of higher frequency and the code of a smaller number of bits is referred to, and the code corresponding to the calculated difference is read out. At step S13, it is judged whether or not all the normolization coefficients B are encoded. If so, the procedure goes to Step S14 and the code read at step S12 is outputted. The invention can be applied to a sound recorder.</p> |
