VALVE TIMING CONTROL DEVICE

PURPOSE: A valve timing control device is provided to use several kinds of lock pins and to suppress noise caused by releasing a lock in low oil pressure by discharging oil with air being first break pressure for lock releasing in starting an engine. CONSTITUTION: A valve timing control device is composed of a purge path(24) arranged at a vane of a rotor(6) provided with a valve. The purge path communicates a retardation side oil hydraulic pressure chamber(10) with an accommodation hole(14). Oil pressure from an oil pump in starting an engine is supplied to the retardation side oil hydraulic pressure chamber. Oil containing air is discharged out in a discharging hole(17) through an exhaust pressure section(14a). After the air is discharged, residual oil pressure is generated by oil supplied to the exhaust pressure section. The residual oil pressure obstructs lock releasing by increasing lock releasing oil pressure. Oil pressure in the retardation side oil hydraulic pressure chamber is supplied through the purge path to the accommodation hole to generate oil pressure acting to delay a release operation.
