NOVEL CANCER-ASSOCIATED GENES

DNA which contains a base sequence encoding a polypeptide (protein) as specified in the following (a) or (b): (a) a polypeptide comprising an amino acid sequence which is identical or substantially identical with an amino acid sequence represented by SEQ ID NO:1 or SEQ ID NO:2; and (2) a polypeptide comprising an amino acid sequence derived from an amino acid sequence represented by SEQ ID NO:1 or SEQ ID NO:2 from deletion, substitution or addition of a part of the amino acids and having a substantially the same biological activity as the function of the polypeptide (a). Antibodies binding to the above proteins; anticancer agents containing these antibodies; a method of screening a substance binding to the above proteins or peptide fragments thereof; polynucleotides being hybridizable with the DNAs under stringent conditions and consisting of at least 15 bases; and a method of detecting cancer with the use of these polynucleotides as a probe. It is considered that the above DNAs, which are cancer-associated genes, can regulate cancer by inhibiting the binding of a ligand to the above proteins, etc. Thus, the above-described antibodies are usable not only in detecting the proteins as described above, etc. but also as remedies or preventives for cancer such as prostatic cancer and ovarian cancer.
