A method for automatically setting channels an ad-hoc mode of a WLAN is provided to enable a WLAN station such as a portable phone or a DMB receiver to automatically set a channel in which interference by neighbor channels is the lowest when using the WLAN in the ad-hoc mode, thereby preventing deterioration of communication speed and improving data processing. A method for automatically setting channels an ad-hoc mode of a WLAN(Wireless Local Access Network) comprises the following steps. A WLAN station collects beacons through WLAN channels after an ad-hoc environment, in which an ad-hoc mode and an SSID(Service Set Identifier) are previously included, is set(S100,S200), and then determines whether a communication mode, included in the collected beacons, is the ad-hoc mode and a WLAN station having the same SSID as the set SSID exists or not(S300).
