摘要 An open planar MRI system configuration with a remote region of magnetic homogeneity uses gradient coils and an rf coil for spatial encoding and image reconstruction. The open magnet configuration has a substantially planar ferromagnetic core surface layer, and a unipolar current wire pair on a side of ferromagnetic core adjacent the planar core surface layer. The planar core surface layer provides an orthogonal refractory effect in the form of mirror image current wires having the same polarity as the current wire pair, that substantially increases the magnetic field produced as opposed to a magnetic field produced by the current wire pair in free space. The current wire pair which is substantially parallel to the planar surface core layer, which extends perpendicular to the axis, and is separated along the longitudinal axis, provides a maximum magnetic field in a perpendicular direction to the planar core surface layer in the remote homogeneous region.
