PURPOSE: An apparatus and method for controlling a low battery mode in a mobile communication terminal is provided to retrieve data stored in a memory in the low battery mode. CONSTITUTION: A voltage of a battery is detected in a standby state of a terminal(202,204). If the voltage of the battery is reduced to a minimum voltage level set in a low battery detecting unit, low power elements such as a boosting voltage generator, a crystal oscillator, an LCD, a memory are activated(206). If a key is inputted in the state in which the minimum functions of the terminal are activated for retrieving data stored in the memory(208), a corresponding telephone number is fetched(210) and the fetched telephone number is displayed on the LCD(212).
