Method and apparatus for mounting an axially slidable brake disc (12) in a spot-type automotive disc brake provides a technique for refining the brake performance by largely eliminating vibration and/or judder in use by the adoption of a brake disc friction face (18) inner edge which is radially outwardly displaced with respect to normal practice and is likewise (radially) relatively close to the teeth of keys of the disc drive system. In this way the more slender braking surface of the brake disc together with its relatively closely adjacent axially slidable drive, leads to improved dynamic performance while maintaining thermal capacity requirements.
