A tape dispenser (10, 110) is provided for dispensing rolled adhesive tape (12) mounted on a hub (14), where the hub comprises at least an outer cylindrical wall (18) onto which the adhesive tape is spirally wound, and where the adhesive tape is at least as wide as the hub. The tape dispenser comprises a first side member (30), a second side member (32), and a cutter member (34). Each of the side members has a first major side portion (36) which overlies a roll of adhesive tape within the tape dispenser. At least t he first major side portion of at least one of the side members is formed of a flexible plastics material so that, when the flexible first major side porti on is pressed using finger pressure, the sides of the tape hub interfere with a t least portions of the inner surfaces of the first major side portions of the side members, such that a braking effect is imparted to the hub to preclude unreeling of the spirally wound adhesive tape from the hub.
