The invention relates to a load carrying device comprising a load transference rack (1) having a first width and a top having a second width, which is larger than the first width. Anchoring means are provided for releasably mounting the load carrying device on a means of transportation or on another load carrying device. The load transference rack (1) is further provided with first connecting means and the top (2) with corresponding second connecting means (14). The first and the second (14) connecting means are adapted to be releasably connected to each other. The invention further relates to a top (2) as defined above.
