Filtering out and drying solid particles from liquids using filter candles (5) arranged in a pressure vessel (1) comprises interrupting the filter operation to clean the filter and remove the filter discharge using a stripping plunger (11). The filter discharge is dried by pressing the residual liquid after it leaves the vessel. An Independent claim is also included for a device for carrying out the process. Preferred Features: The filter discharge is dried during the filtering operation. The stripping plunger is cleaned by rapid pulling back the plunger and rinsing using a pressure medium introduced externally. A centrifuge is used to dry the filter discharge.
