The cooking appliance has the food to be cooked placed within a reception space defined by a non-planar 3-dimensional cooking surface of glass or a glass ceramic material, provided on its outside with an electrical resistance heating device, in direct contact with the cooking surface. The resistance heating device is provided by a conductive layer of a resistance material with a positive temperature coefficient, supplied via terminal electrodes (5,6) at spaced points on the outside of the cooking surface.
