Apparatus for finding a motor vehicle comprises a base station (1) associated with the vehicle having a field strength emitter (17) and a receiver (12) and a mobile station (2) that is carried by a person and that has an emitter (37) and a field strength receiver (32). In addition it has a computer (31) that executes a program to determine the distance (E) and direction (R), to the base station, from the field strength signals (19.1-19.n) and a display to show the calculated values.
