The deformable component (1) for a car is fitted into the recess (22) into which the spare wheel normally fits and absorbs energy in a rear-end crash. It has a circular outer wall and two parallel walls which extend across this and are arranged longitudinally along the car. An Independent claim is included for a method for increasing the resistance to deformation of a car using the component.
