Process for catalytically converting an unwanted material (A) containing a gaseous or liquid fluid into a wanted material (B) involves using a device having at least two reactors, each containing a catalyst. The reactors can be switched between a regeneration phase and an adsorption phase. Process for catalytically converting an unwanted material (A) containing a gaseous or liquid fluid into a wanted material (B) involves using a device having at least two reactors, each containing a catalyst. A part of the reactor is cooled such that this part of the reactor is operated below the dew point or fixed point of the material (B) during treatment of a gaseous fluid and below the fixed point of the material (B) during treatment of a liquid fluid. The reactors can be switched between a regeneration phase and an adsorption phase. The reactor cooled in the adsorption phase is pre-heated by waste heat from the heated reactor in the regeneration phase. An Independent claim is also included for a device for carrying out the process. Preferred Features: A cooling system is assigned to each reactor. The fluid is a gas stream containing H2S and/or SO2 as the unwanted material A, which can be catalytically converted to elemental sulfur as wanted material B.
