NUMBER-OF-REPETITIONS UPDATING DEVICE AND METHOD

A number-of-repetitions updating device for updating the number of repetitions that is a requisite minimum to perform decoding sequentially by not fixing the number of repetitions. The number-of-repetitions updating device is added to a turbo decoding section of a turbo decoding circuit. The turbo decoding section performs decoding while updating reliability information stored in an external information memory section on the basis of soft-decision reception data and performs hard decision after the decoding. Each time repetition is ended, the bit error rate with respect to the data decoded previously is measured. On the basis of the result of the measurement, the number of repetitions necessary for the next decoding is determined.
