摘要 The fuel injection method divides out the entire quantity of fuel to be injected into the combustion chamber of a cylinder during a combustion cycle, into several smaller injections. The method involves determining a first quantity of fuel to be injected into the combustion chamber in a first injection and determining a fourth, minimum quantity for a third injection. The total quantity of fuel minus the first quantity is compared with the minimum quantity. The first quantity, and a second quantity are set to zero, and a third quantity is set to the total amount of fuel if the comparison shows that the total amount minus the first amount is equal to or greater than the minimum quantity, and the third amount is applied. The first injection is followed, in time, by the second, which is followed by the third. Independent claims also cover an apparatus for carrying out the method.
