A lease and loan sub-ledger accounting system (10) that provides sub-ledger transaction detail for asset level accounting is described. The accounting system includes a lease and loan accounting engine (12), a plurality of component object model (COM<TM>) enabled sub-ledger accounting components, and a plurality of programmatic interfaces (140) enabling communication between the accounting components and the accounting engine.
