A structured lighting material (1), an illuminator, and a method to generate incoherent luminescence wherein luminescent intensity increases superlinearly when excitation energy applied thereto through an electron beam, electric charge, electric field or the like exceeds a threshold. In the present invention, the structured lighting material has a minute uneven surface. This invention enables high-efficient lighting devices, sensors and memories owing to the superlinearity. <IMAGE>
