METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR PROVIDING SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION REGARDING OBJECTS IN A VIDEO STREAM

A method and system for providing a signal including selectively providing supplemental information regarding one or more objects contained within the signal. A signal to be transmitted is received, and map references for objects within the first signal is created. Supplemental information for mapped objects is captured. The first signal, the map and the supplemental information are transmitted to a receiver capable of receiving and reproducing the signal and the supplemental information and interpreting the map. Upon receipt, the signal is reproduced and the map is interpreted. Selection of a map reference causes the supplemental information associated with the selected object reference to be displayed.
