The mounting device has a support section for holding the ferrule (3) and a radial displacement device (23) for moving a firmly gripped optical fibre (1) or hollow fibre in the cross-direction into an axial hole (11) in the ferrule. Independent claims are also included for (a) a method for mounting an optical fibre or hollow fibre in a ferrule by fixing the ferrule in a given position, moving the fibre in the cross-direction into a desired position inside an axial hole in the ferrule, and fixing the fibre in the desired position, (b) a ferrule for mounting an optical fibre or hollow fibre, provided with an axial hole having a diameter which is greater than that of the fibre, and (c) a contact device comprising a ferrule with an outer mechanical guide surface (5) and an axial hole containing an optical fibre, the hole having a diameter which is greater than that of the fibre and containing a curable material (35) around a front section of the fibre, in order to fix it into a desired position relative to the guide surface. |
