Method and turbo decoder for use in a communications system employing repetitions of an information packet

A method provides efficient and low complexity turbo-decoding in a communications system employing repetitions of an information packet (ARQ). A number of repetitions of the received information and channel observations thereof are stored, and the channel observations are combined according to the formula <MATH> to produce a combined channel observation that is used to subsequently turbo-decode the received information packet. This provides a very simple scheme offering very good performance. <IMAGE>
